Holistic Grief Care
Creating compassionate space for individuals and communities to process grief, loss, and change—at their own pace, in their own way.
Mourning Ventures of Maine provides grief care services rooted in a holistic, evidence-informed approach. With sensitivity, structure, and respect for personal pace, we support individuals and small groups navigating the emotional, relational, and existential impact of loss. Our services are not clinical therapy—but they are deeply therapeutic, filling the critical gap between informal peer support and licensed mental health care.

Honoring your grief is honoring your humanity.
Services Offered
Individual Grief Care
One-on-one 60-minute sessions (virtual or in-person) offering space to reflect, process emotions, and navigate the personal impact of grief and loss. Each session is shaped by the individual’s experience—whether related to death, anticipatory grief, caregiving, estrangement, retirement, health changes, or other life-altering transitions.
Support includes compassionate listening, non-clinical grief education, and tools to help integrate and honor your experience over time. The number and frequency of sessions depend on client needs and availability.
Grief assessment services are available to determine whether a referral to a licensed mental health provider may be appropriate.
Grief Care Groups
Small, closed-format groups held several times a year—both virtually and, when possible, in-person across Maine. Each group includes four (4) semi-structured, 90-minute sessions offered bi-weekly.
Groups are limited to 4–10 participants. A brief application and pre-group screening are required to ensure readiness and fit. Timing and location depend on community interest and available space.
Grief Workshops
Community-based workshops lasting 1.5 to 3 hours, combining education, conversation, and emotional support. Topics vary and may include:
-
Anticipatory Grief
-
Seasonal Grief & Special Days
-
Pet Loss & Companion Animal Grief
-
Expressing Grief Through Art (a signature favorite—no artistic skill required!)

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is this the same as therapy?
A: Not quite. Our grief support is therapeutic in style and professionally guided, but it’s not licensed mental health treatment. We do not diagnose or treat mental health conditions—but we often work alongside those who do.
Q: How many sessions do people usually attend?
A: It varies. Some people come once. Others come monthly, seasonally, or as needed. We work at your pace.
Q: Do you use a specific method?
A: Our approach draws from multiple frameworks, including meaning-making, continuing bonds, narrative practice, and trauma-informed care—but most importantly, it centers on you and what you need.
Q: Is this only for people who’ve lost someone recently?
A: Not at all. We support people grieving losses from the past, present, or anticipated future—including death, illness, role changes, and major life transitions.
