Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I need to be old or sick to do this?
A: Absolutely not. These services are for any adult who wants to be prepared—whether you’re 20 or 80, healthy or facing illness. Planning is an act of love, not fear.

Q: Can I bring a partner, adult child, or friend?
A: Yes. You’re welcome to include anyone you trust in the planning process.

Q: Do you provide legal advice?
A: No. Mourning Ventures does not provide legal, medical, or financial advice. We offer values-based planning support and education to help you think things through and complete recognized forms. When legal or clinical input is needed, we’ll help you identify when and how to connect with the right professionals.

Q: Do I need a lawyer to complete an advance directive or other planning documents?
A: Not necessarily. Many advance care planning documents—like health care directives—can be completed without a lawyer. However, if you prefer legal guidance, or need documents like a health care power of attorney that meet specific legal standards in your state, we can help you prepare to work with an attorney. Our role is to support your planning—not to provide legal advice.

Q: Is this confidential?
A: Yes—within limits. We follow professional standards of confidentiality, even though we are not a clinical or legal entity. What you share is kept private unless there is a concern about serious harm to yourself or others, or if you ask us to share information on your behalf. Please note: if you invite a friend, family member, or health care proxy to join a session, that person is not bound by the same confidentiality standards.

Q: How do I know which service is right for me?
A: That’s what the free 15-minute consultation or general planning session is for—helping you find the right fit for your needs, goals, and comfort level.
