Overview: Who We Are & What We Do

Mourning Ventures of Maine exists to reduce unnecessary stress and suffering during life’s most difficult transitions. We provide compassionate, personalized support in times of grief, loss, and uncertainty—and help people prepare for the future with greater clarity, care, and peace of mind.

We serve a growing need in Maine: the need for high-quality, structured, non-clinical support that bridges the gap between informal peer support and formal mental health care. Grief, dying, and planning for our future needs are deeply human experiences, yet many people feel alone, unprepared, or unsure where to turn. Mourning Ventures fills that space—offering guidance that is grounded, deeply informed, and centered on real-life needs.

We support individuals, groups, communities, and workplaces across the state through a combination of grief care, advance planning services, and educational outreach.

Holistic Grief Care

We provide meaningful support for those navigating grief, loss, and transition—whether related to death, illness, caregiving, aging, or other significant life events. Our services are deeply therapeutic in nature, helping clients process what they’re carrying and find their way forward, at their own pace. Support is available one-on-one, in small groups, or through community-based events.

Our planning services help individuals and families prepare for the “what ifs” in life—before a crisis hits. Through guided conversations, reflection, and documentation, we help clients identify their values, make informed decisions, complete advance directives, and organize essential personal information. This work relieves future burdens and creates clarity for all involved.

Mourning Ventures of Maine envisions a future where every person and community feels supported, informed, and prepared for life’s most critical transitions. Through our work, we are helping to build that future—one conversation, one plan, and one life story at a time.

Disclaimer: Mourning Ventures of Maine is not a clinical therapy practice. Our services are deeply therapeutic but non-diagnostic and non-clinical—designed for those seeking meaningful support outside of traditional mental health treatment. Grounded in the disciplines of social work and thanatology (the study of death, dying, and bereavement), our approach is structured, evidence-informed, and human-centered.
